All the instruments in UTMCF are open to Users after they have been trained and certified by UTMCF Staff. For more detailed information on training and certification, please visit our Service / Training Page.

If you plan to use the UTMCF instruments, we ask that you schedule instruments in advance so as to prevent conflicts. To schedule an instrument please 'log in' to the Instrument Scheduler using your previously registered username and password. Without logging in, the scheduler can be used to find the status and current intended usage of any machine in the UT Microarray Core Facility. Cancellations should be made at least 24 hours in advance. Billing Note: Fees are assessed based on the number of times a user schedules an instrument not the amount of experiment time. Cancellations that are noted prior to the 24 hour deadline will not be charged a fee.

Arrayer N: Default arrayer for User printing. This arrayer can print up to 260 slides with 40,000 spots/slides using 48 pins. This arrayer does not have a housing for dust or humidity control.

Arrayer H: This arrayer can print 100 slides and does have a housing that can provide an environment up to 90% humidity. This arrayer is recommended for fabricating aptamer or protein arrays in small scale (<20 slides per printing).

GenePix 4000B Scanner: Simultaneous scanning two wavelengths with two lasers (532nm and 635nm), single-side microarray scanner, real-time PMT adjustment, adjustable laser power (10%, 33%, 100%), 64 micron focal depth, user-selectable resolution from 5 microns to 100 microns per pixel, acquisition speed - 5 minute scan for two wavelengths at 10 micron resolution, full scan area of 22x71.5mm, integrated barcode reading, automatically records slide ID into image file.

BioMek FX liquid handling robot: This is a general purpose “xyz pipettor” that can be used for a variety of purposes, but in the context of the UTMCF will be most useful for sample rehydration, transfer or dilution. Additional uses should be cleared with UTMCF Staff.

The Eppendorf 5810R is used for sample rehydration and spin down. Details include: Variable speeds to 14.000 rpm, time 1-99 minutes, temperature control -4 to 40C, 10x2.0 and 1.5ml tube capacity or 4 microplates.

The Brother P-Touch electronic labeling system is used for printing labels for arrays. Details include the ability to print laminated labels up to 1/4 inch, easy-view 15 character display, print up to 2-line labels, 6 available 'auto-formats', 5 framing options and 9 type styles.
